Unveiling the Unspoken Abuse in Grafton Close Children’s Home

Unveiling the Unspoken Abuse

Let’s be under no illusions about the abuse that took place in the Grafton Close Children’s Home and other facilities run by the Richmond upon Thames Council. I was one of those children who suffered, yet this abuse had been ongoing for decades, well known by those in positions of authority.

Accountability of Authority Figures

Terry Earland and Louis Minster were fully aware of the abuse and had briefed Baroness Jenny Tonge on numerous occasions. They knew about these horrifying conditions in the 1970s and continued to place children in these homes beyond 1983. This negligence is glaring and unacceptable.

Continued Negligence and Denial

Today, when survivors come forward to what is now ‘Achieving for Children’ of Richmond upon Thames, they are met with denial, closed doors, and solicitors’ letters. The neglect shown by the current administrators is almost as complicit as the abuse itself.

Call for Resignation

I have actively called for the resignation of the leader of the council, Gareth Roberts, and those heading ‘Achieving for Children,’ including Ian Dodds and his understudies Caroline Mark and Alison Twynham. These individuals are unfit to provide the care and support survivors need in today’s society.
